Maria SS. Dell' Assunta Society
On Sunday, October 9, 2011 the members of the Maria SS. Dell'Assunta Society held a 100th Anniversary dinner-dance celebration at Verdi's in Westbury. The Society was honored to have several guest speakers talk about the Dell'Assunta Society and what the organization has meant as both a religious and cultural organization serving the needs of St. Brigid's Parish and the Westbury community. Guest speakers included Honorary Member and Westbury Village Justice, Judge Thomas Liotti; Honorary Member Reverend Monsignor Ralph Sommer; Mayor of Westbury, Peter Cavallaro; Honorary Member and Former Mayor of Westbury, Ernest Strada; New York State Assemblyman, Michael Montesano; Nassau County Legislator, Robert Troiano; and Town of North Hempstead Supervisor, Jon Kaiman. The organization received several proclamations in recognition of the good works performed over the years and for the many contributions to the local community. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano was unable to attend but sent a congratulatory letter along with his proclamation.
The President of the Society, Joe Piscitelli, talked about the history of the Society and its past Presidents. Many descendents of the founding members and past Presidents have been active in the Society throughout its history. Joe was recognized by the Members of the Society and named Honorary President for having served 22 years as President throughout his membership.
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary, the Maria SS. Dell'Assunta Society published a magnificent Anniversary Journal. It was a commemorative work with a complete history and photos spanning an entire century.
The Maria SS. Dell'Assunta Society was very proud to celebrate 100 years of dedication and devotion to the Church and the community. The Society is looking forward to the next 100 years and to carrying forward the tradition established throughout their history.
